S’wak to host first Jombola contest

KUCHING: Sarawak will play host to the first Jombola competition in Kuching on Oct 22 at Petra Jaya Multipurpose Hall here.

According to a statement issued yesterday, the competition is co-organised by Sarawak Youth and Sports Department and Jombola Association Sarawak in conjunction with the National Sports Month.

The competition is free and open to all Sarawakians of all ages.

Competing categories include the men’s doubles, women doubles and mixed doubles and cash prizes will be offered for those who manage to enter the semifinal round and above for the three categories.

Equipment during the competition will be supplied to participants and participants do not need to bring any Jombola equipment.

Jombola is a type of sports which combines badminton, squash, ping pong and tennis games on a badminton court.

Deputy President of Jombola Sarawak Dr Ong Kong Swee said Jombola is a community sport and easy to play which makes it a very enjoyable game for people of various ages.

For the record, Jombola Sarawak was officially launched on May 28 by Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Meanwhile, Jombola Protem president Kennedy Chukpai Ugon has organised various Jombola events such as the coaching and technical clinic on July 30 and 31 for 53 participants and Training of Trainers (TOT) Jombola instructors course for nine selected coaches from Sarawak on Oct 8-9.
