KUCHING: Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) will only reveal the full list of players for the Sarawak United team after their four friendly matches in Malaya after the Chinese New Year (CNY).
FAS president Datuk Posa Majais said they are not rushing to announce the list as there are a few more players (local and foreign) who are still undergoing selection trials.
“There were several foreign players who came for our selection trials and so far we have sent home one of them because he did not meet our criteria,” Posa told TribuneSport here yesterday.
Posa said Sarawak United will be playing four friendly matches — two with Super League teams and two with Premier League teams. The teams include PJ City, Kuala Lumpur and Felda United.
“Wait until we have played our friendly matches. Then we will hold a press conference to announce our list of players,” added Posa.
Meanwhile, Posa confirmed that FAS has signed a Spanish coach for the team and he has been conducting training with the team since last month. In another development, news about Liberian striker Forkey Doe joining Kuching FA Premier League team for 2020 season have generated great excitement among football fans in Sarawak, especially in Kuching.
Kuching FA president Fazzruddin Abdul Rahman was reported to have said that they are waiting for Forkey’s passport and visa application approval.
Once the documentations are settled, Kuching FA will sign the Liberian striker to spearhead their strikeforce.
Forkey has played in the Malaysian League for more than 10 years — representing Selangor, Pahang, Terengganu, Felda United, NS Matrix and Kelantan. Besides Forkey, Kuching FA will also have the services of Japanese Akira Higashiyama, but excluded Brazilian Da Silva Santos.
