KUCHING: If Pakatan Harapan (PH) wins in the next state election and rules Sarawak, the whole idea and spirit of Malaysia could be undermined, possibly putting the country in trouble, said political analyst Datuk Peter Minos.
“PH must not be allowed to take over Sarawak because that would compromise the partnership made in 1963 by Malaya, Sarawak, Sabah (and Singapore) when they formed Malaysia,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
In this he was in agreement with Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing who also said that if PH wins, Sarawak would lose all.
He said that he fully agrees with Masing that if PH wins in 2021 or earlier, Sarawak will lose all its autonomy.
“In 1963, Sarawak, Sabah, Malaya (and Singapore) agreed to form Malaysia on the clear conditions that each of them had some special rights and powers,” he said.
He pointed out that the federal government, for many reasons have always been dominated by Malayans and controls the national finance, customs, police, military, judiciary and many other key institutions.
All were spelt out very clearly under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“But now, what do we hear and see? Malaya through the PH is trying to topple the Sarawak-based Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
“It is Malaya trying to take over Sarawak. This is totally against MA63, its terms and spirit. It is against the wishes and will of Sarawakians. It is not acceptable that Malaya through PH is taking over Sarawak. Not acceptable,” he insisted.
He asserted that Sarawak has no interest in taking over Malaya. Even the thought of it, is not acceptable because Sarawak is weaker in terms of the population and economic standing.
“So I say again, if PH wins in 2021 and takes over Sarawak, the whole idea and spirit of Malaysia is directly undermined and possibly in trouble. Malaya through PH must not take over Sarawak because the partnership solemnly made in 1963 would be broken and might cause big problems,” he said.
