BINTULU: Swift action by security guards prevented one of the rooms at a workers quarters in an oil palm plantation in Jalan Tatau-Selangau from being destroyed by fire.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Tatau station were sent to the scene after receiving a distress call around 12.10pm, Monday (Feb 6).
The team confirmed that the fire had occurred in the fourth room of the workers quarters.
However, the blaze was completely put out by the plantation’s security guards with two fire extinguishers and water from a nearby source before the team reached the scene.
The fire had damaged the room belonging to a 25-year-old man.
The team monitored the situation to ensure that it was safe. The cause of the fire and the losses incurred are still under investigation.
