Swift arrest solves bike theft case

KUCHING: Police successfully solved a motorcycle theft case within four hours and arrested two individuals for allegedly committing the crime last Saturday morning.  

Kuching district deputy police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said police received a report on a stolen motorcycle around 6am in Santubong area.  

The first suspect arrested in an abandoned house in Bandar Baru Samariang.

Following the report and information, a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) unit proceeded to raid an abandoned house in Bandar Baru Samariang around 8.40am.

“During the raid, the team arrested a 15-year-old boy who was stripping apart components of the suspected stolen motorcycle. The motorcycle and its components were seized by police.  

“After interrogating the suspect, a team from Kuching Police Crime Investigation Division (CID) managed to apprehend a 24-year-old man believed to be the mastermind of the motorcycle theft in the same area (Bandar Baru Samariang),” he said in a statement.  

He added that the second suspect had four past records of drug-related offences.  

Both suspects were remanded for four days to facilitate police investigation.

Merbin said further investigations would be done to identify whether the duo was involved in other vehicle theft cases around Kuching.  

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code and if convicted, the offender can be sentenced to a jail term of not less than a year and not more than seven years including fine.
