KUCHING: The Sarawak Radio Emergency and Drone Squad (REDS) will be collaborating with the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to assist in the event of disasters.

State Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) director Datuk Khirudin Drahman said radios and drones are useful particularly in search and rescue (SAR) operations.

He said this after a courtesy call on Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who is SDMC chairman at his office here on today (March 13).

During the visit, the delegation invited Uggah to become its patron in a move to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation.

“We want to get him (Uggah) to be part and parcel of the people with the ability to upgrade the SAR operation capability in Sarawak.

“In my capacity as the advisor to REDS, we paid him a courtesy call to brief him on the association’s roles and functions,” he said.

Khirudin said the squad is looking to strengthen its cooperation with other agencies and ensure sustainability in its operation.
