An Artist’s impression of PPNS’s new building.

KUCHING: The various branches of the Area Farmers Associations (PPK) in Sarawak are thrilled that a new State Farmers Associations’ (PPNS) building worth RM20 million will be built in Kota Samarahan.

To them it is a symbol of recognition for their community and as such is a source of their pride.

The building will be on five acres and will be equipped with information communication technology (ICT) facilities, spaces for exhibition, product promotions, and sales of local products to local and foreign markets.

Furthermore, the building will also be a hub for meeting between PPNS, PPK and other relevant parties involved in agriculture per se and agricultural industry in general.

New Sarawak Tribune talked to some PPK chairmen and here is what they said:

In my opinion, it will be easier for us in the PPK to deal directly with PPNS instead of going through our general manager. I look forward to attending seminars, workshops and meetings when the construction of the building is completed as previously most of these activities were held in hotels.

We fully support the construction of the building as it represents PPK throughout Sarawak. As the community of farmers in Sarawak is large, various activities can be organised in the building. It will become an avenue to inform farmers in rural areas about state government policies.

I am proud of this achievement as PPNS has never had its building before. I hope that this will be a stepping stone for farmers in Sarawak to move forward and be motivated to increase their productivity.

I am happy with the state government’s effort to further assist and develop farmers in rural areas.
