Tabung Kasih@HAWANA continues to assist current, ex-media practitioners

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 10 current and former media practitioners with health issues received assistance under the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative yesterday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself presented the aid to the recipients during a Madani Berbuka Puasa event with media practitioners here at Seri Perdana Complex here.

Recipient Jamhariah Jaafar, 61, a former Berita Harian journalist, expressed her gratitude towards the government for showing concern towards her.

“When we fall sick, we just accept it. Thank you HAWANA (Tabung Kasih@HAWANA ) and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and the Prime Minister’s Office for inviting me to this event and for me to be able to meet up with old friends,” she told Bernama.

Muhammad Husni Othman, whose mother, Mariamah Tijo, was a pioneer employee of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), also conveyed his thanks to the Prime Minister and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil for the aid, adding that it was a great token of appreciation to honour her service as an RTM radio broadcaster.

“This assistance will help her and it really does honour her contributions in the media industry. Thank you very much,” he added.

Tabung Kasih@HAWANA was set up in conjunction with National Journalists Day (HAWANA) 2023, aimed at helping current and former media practitioners in need.

An initiative of the Communications Ministry, it is implemented by BERNAMA as a continuous effort to assist members of the media community who face hardships in life.

Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, chief executive officer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj also attended this evening’s event.

The number of recipients of Tabung Kasih@HAWANA currently stands at 47 people. – BERNAMA
