Vaccination: No such thing as first-come-first-served

KUCHING: Vaccine recipients, please take note.  If you think you will be given a queue number that will enable you to take the vaccine much earlier by arriving at vaccine centres well before the actual vaccination appointment time, you are in for a big disappointment. It’s not going to happen.  Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said instead, early comers (to Stadium Perpaduan) will be seated in a separate waiting area.  “This is to avoid chaos and overcrowding which will result in long waiting times and decreased efficiency of the vaccination process,” he said in a Facebook post last night (June 6).  He said the new crowd flow management in place at the stadium will help prevent frustration among recipients.  “So, remember, those who have already received the appointment date and time will just need to arrive 30 minutes before their appointment,” he said.  Dr Sim, using an analogy of the experience of boarding a flight, said it’s just like one not having to to go to the airport in the morning when the flight is in the afternoon.  “Even in transit ,when you don’t get out of the airport, the boarding gate doesn’t open,” he said.  In the meantime, he expressed gratitude to the numerous agencies under the federal and state governments for managing the crowd during the vaccination process and continuing to monitor, refine and improve the whole process.
