The rest of us must follow Sarawak: PM
KUCHING: Sarawak is setting a shining example of a developed state for the rest of the country to emulate through its unity. Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Sarawak is reflecting the concept of ‘unity in diversity’ where it has proven that the people have a strong spirit of unity regardless of their background differences and location. “That is why Sarawak is an example of a developed state where its people are united,” he said when speaking at a luncheon with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders at Waterfront Hotel here today (April 2). He said it is important for the nation to have political stability in ensuring that all the development plans could be implemented. Muhyiddin went on to say that the efforts in ensuring that Sarawak continues to develop is a ‘total commitment’ by the PN federal government, not a ‘half-hearted’ effort. “This is because we know that Sarawak could be the major contributor to the growth of economy, social, education and development plans as well as a clear vision and direction coinciding with the government’s ‘Wawasan Kemakmuran Bersama’ (WKB) 2030 and Sarawak’s future development direction in the next 10 years. “Look at Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and I … we think together, we have the same ideals and we have the same vision to make sure that this region of Sarawak and Malaysia must move forward to be a developed region and a developed country,” he added. Also present during the luncheon were federal ministers from the GPS namely, Senior Minister of Works Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof; Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar; Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi; and Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. Other notable GPS leaders were Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing; and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
