Prime Minister savours Haji Salleh’s irresistible kolo mee

KUCHING: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin started his Day 2 of his official state visit with a bowl of the famed irresistible Mee Kolo Haji Salleh, a locals favourite at Sepinang Seri Cafe and Restaurant, Kampung Bandarshah here.  He and his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, arrived at the eatery at around 7.30am.  They were accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg. As soon as he arrived at the eatery, Muhyiddin or ‘Tok Abah’ as he is fondly referred to by Malaysians, signed a plaque to mark his visit.  He was given the opportunity to prepare a bowl of the kolo mee himself.  “The kolo mee is very good,” said Muhyiddin, while giving the thumbs-up when responding to online FB news platform Sarawak Edition’s question on how he found the kolo mee. Asked if he would come back, the prime minister said, “Yes … Yes”.  Haji Salleh’s kolo mee was once mentioned by Muhyiddin in his address when he explained the initiatives under the Prihatin packages to assist small and medium enterprises (SMEs) last year.  Sepinang Sari Cafe has been operating for almost 26 years and is also listed as a must-visit eatery by local food lovers on social media platforms.  The eatery is run by Salleh Reduan’s 47-year-old daughter Faridah Salleh, and indeed was a dream come true for the family when the prime minister himself visited the cafe.  Among those present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister of Works Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, UiTM Sarawak lecturer Dr Melvern Abdullah, Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations (SFCA) president Datuk Richard Wee, former Miss World Malaysia 2018 Larissa Ping Liew, and renowned and local social media influencer Ngek Tsai.

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he was touched by the prayer recited by a frail former ‘penghulu’ (village head) he visited during the Ziarah Kasih programme in Kampung Sindang here today (April 2). He said that Aris Johari, 74, one of the villagers he visited under the programme, had recited a prayer for the prime minister to continue with efforts to help the people. “The prayers recited by ordinary people for leaders are extraordinary. Leaders like us always pray for our people to have good lives,” he said. He said this when speaking at a get-together with community leaders at the Institute of Teachers Education (IPG) Tun Abdul Razak Campus, which he attended after participating in the Ziarah Kasih programme. His wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and several federal and state ministers were also present. Meanwhile, another resident of Kampung Sindang, Selha Slet, 67, a single mother of five children, said it was like a dream when Muhyiddin visited her home and spent about 20 minutes talking with her and her family. “I had palpitations as soon as I found out that the prime minister wanted to visit us. All this while I only watched him on television, but today he was before my own eyes. I feel very lucky; our rezeki  that he was willing to come to our house. “Our prime minister is very friendly and caring about the people,” said Selha, whose husband died in 2014. – Bernama

Muhyiddin and PN likely to win hands down

KUCHING: A political analyst is predicting Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin and his PN coalition’s decisive victory in the next general elections.  Datuk Peter Minos said Malaysians are not blind and they can see that Muhyiddin is honest and sincere in wanting to save the nation and maintain stability. He also places integrity and honesty above all which Malaysians admire.  “Despite being constantly harassed and disturbed by his political opponents, Muhyiddin has kept his cool and calm.  “Plus, he handled the Covid-19 pandemic very well. He managed to keep the national economy afloat during these trying times. Furthermore, the economic situation is now on the mends and improving,” he said.  Minos said the prime minister has helped Malaysians badly affected by the pandemic in the best ways he could.  “He did not let criticisms by his political opponents distract him, and he never stopped working for the people and the country. All of us can see his efforts.  “There is indeed a lot of respect and admiration for Muhyiddin. People cannot be bothered about the attacks and criticisms against him. The more Muhyiddin is hit, the more Malaysian respect him. This is the reality and a fact,” he added.  Muhyiddin has openly said he wants to treat Sarawak and Sabah fairly and equitably, and this has won the hearts of the people from the Borneo states.  “Yes, Sabah and Sarawak appreciate the words of Muhyiddin, for it is no secret that the two states want to be equally treated and to be on par with Peninsular Malaysia.  “Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is thus giving full support to Muhyiddin. And Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has said so and he is just expressing the true feelings of Sarawakians,” Minos said.  The political analyst felt that if a referendum were to be held now, there’s a high possibility that 70 percent of Malaysians would support Muhyiddin.
