Prime Minister savours Haji Salleh’s irresistible kolo mee

KUCHING: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin started his Day 2 of his official state visit with a bowl of the famed irresistible Mee Kolo Haji Salleh, a locals favourite at Sepinang Seri Cafe and Restaurant, Kampung Bandarshah here.  He and his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, arrived at the eatery at around 7.30am.  They were accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg. As soon as he arrived at the eatery, Muhyiddin or ‘Tok Abah’ as he is fondly referred to by Malaysians, signed a plaque to mark his visit.  He was given the opportunity to prepare a bowl of the kolo mee himself.  “The kolo mee is very good,” said Muhyiddin, while giving the thumbs-up when responding to online FB news platform Sarawak Edition’s question on how he found the kolo mee. Asked if he would come back, the prime minister said, “Yes … Yes”.  Haji Salleh’s kolo mee was once mentioned by Muhyiddin in his address when he explained the initiatives under the Prihatin packages to assist small and medium enterprises (SMEs) last year.  Sepinang Sari Cafe has been operating for almost 26 years and is also listed as a must-visit eatery by local food lovers on social media platforms.  The eatery is run by Salleh Reduan’s 47-year-old daughter Faridah Salleh, and indeed was a dream come true for the family when the prime minister himself visited the cafe.  Among those present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister of Works Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, UiTM Sarawak lecturer Dr Melvern Abdullah, Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations (SFCA) president Datuk Richard Wee, former Miss World Malaysia 2018 Larissa Ping Liew, and renowned and local social media influencer Ngek Tsai.
