Taib attends 260th Conference of Rulers meeting

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Seri Abdul Taib Mahmud has attended the 260th Conference of Rulers meeting at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.

The two-day meeting which began on yesterday (Nov 29) was chaired by Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Almarhum Tuanku Munawir.

During the meeting, Taib was accompanied by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who represented Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Earlier, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah graced the Miracle Fruit (Synsepalum dulcificum) planting tree ceremony at the compound of Istana Negara in conjunction with the meeting.

Tuanku Muhriz planted the tree to symbolise his chairing of the meeting.

Before the ceremony, Tuaku Muhriz took the salute at a Grand Guard of Honour (KKU) mounted by the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) at the Main Square of the Palace.

The Grand Guard of Honour and tree planting ceremony were mooted by the current King and have never been held before His Majesty’s appointment as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The KKU was held for the first time during the 254th edition of the meeting while the tree planting ceremony was introduced during the 255th meeting.
