KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud attended a celebration on the occasion of his 86th birthday last Saturday evening.

The event which took place at a hotel here was also attended by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and a former deputy chief minister Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Dr. George Chan Hong Nam.

The birthday celebration also witnessed a birthday cake cutting ceremony and yellow glutinous rice as well as song performances.

Dr Chan, who spoke at the event, praised Taib as a responsible leader who prioritised the values of unity among the different races towards maintaining peace and harmony in Sarawak.

“Unity between races is key to the progress and stability of the country. Therefore, he has performed his duties and responsibilities with full commitment and dedication to ensure that harmony prevailed in Sarawak,” Dr Chan said.
