ASAJAYA: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud presented contributions amounting to RM100,000 to mosques around here.

The donation was received by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah in a ceremony after Friday prayer at Masjid An-Najah here today.

Taib was here to visit his old constituency (Asajaya) which he represented when he was chief minister, before performing Friday prayer with Asajaya constituents.

Approached by reporters after sending off Taib at the Asajaya Sports Complex, Abdul Karim said the contributions would be disbursed for the use of all mosques and suraus in the constituency.

“Taib has given me the mandate to decide on the distribution; which mosque will receive more and which one would receive less, depending on the situation,” he said.

Karim explained that he would discuss with the district officers and the mosque committees first.

“I will not make the decision alone.

“Every mosque of every village in Asajaya will receive the assistance, that is Taib’s intention,” he added.

He also mentioned that he himself had distributed contributions to houses of worship in the area recently.

There are a total of 21 villages in the constituency. Of these, five are Iban villages and the rest are Malay-majority.
