Taib graces breaking of fast event at Unimas

KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 100 tahfiz (Islamic religious) students and 25 needy families on Sunday night received donations during the breaking of fast event at the Tun Abang Salahuddin Islamic Centre (PITAS) of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) here.

The presentation ceremony was graced by Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, who is also the Chancellor of Unimas.

The students came from five Maahad Tahfiz (Islamic schools), namely, Madrasah Darul Uloom, Samarahan, Madrasah Darul Uloon Falah-e-Derain, BDC, Madrasatul Quran Tan Sri Marzuki Seri Abadi, Pusat Pengajian Tafaqquh Fiddin & Tahfiz Al-Makki, and Tahfiz Ar-Razi School.

Meanwhile, the 25 families came from five villages here, namely, Kampung Muara Tuang, Kampung Sindang, Kampung Melayu, Kampung Niup and Kampung Tanjung Tuang.

The event, organised by Unimas, aimed to strengthen  ties,    celebrate the Ramadan season and  assist the needy by giving away donations.

After the breaking fast event, invited guests as well as the  recipients performed Solat Maghrib and Isyak prayer as well as Solat Tarawih in conjunction with the fasting season.

Also present were Taib’s wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Radad Kurdi Taib, Unimas Deputy Chancellor and Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi.
