Taib pays last respects to late Salahuddin

Taib pours the the water on the grave of the late Tun Salahuddin at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery.

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib paid their last respects to the late former Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Datuk Patinggi Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng at Masjid Jamek in Petra Jaya on Saturday.

Taib and his wife arrived at the mosque at about 1pm yesterday.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg; Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar were among those who went to pay their last respects to the late Tun Salahuddin.

Also present to pay their last respects were Senior Works Minister and Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap and a political secretary to chief minister, Tan Kai.

Earlier, Tun Salahuddin’s body was brought to the mosque at about 11.20am for the funeral prayers before he was laid to rest at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery on Saturday afternoon.

The casket arrived at the cemetery at 1.50pm and was carried by officers of the 11th Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD), Semenggo Camp.

Tun Salahuddin’s body was then moved from the casket and transferred to the ground at 1.58pm.

The funeral rites was led by State chief Imam Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.

At the cemetery, state dignitaries, family members of Tun Salahuddin poured water and sprinkled flowers on his grave before leaving the cemetery.

The late Tun Salahuddin, 100, breathed his last at Normah Specialist Medical Centre here, at 11.45pm on Friday.
