Taib, Raghad break fast with UNIMAS

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib attended the Majlis Iftar Perdana organised by the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in Kota Samarahan, on Wednesday.

The event, held at Tun Abang Salahuddin Islamic Centre (PITAS), aims to foster a sense of belonging among the university community and the local population throughout the month of Ramadan.

Speaking during the event, UNIMAS vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kadim Suaidi noted that the university has never neglected the community surrounding its campus from its inception in Kota Samarahan.

“We’ve invited representatives from outside agencies, village leaders and penghulu as well as Maahad Tahfiz students to join us today.

“We will also provide financial assistance to these students in this programme.

“Maahad al Makki Kota Samarahan, Maahad Reban Pondok Kampung Reban, Kampung Tanjung Bundong, Fasa 2 Kota Samarahan, and Kampung Pinang Kota Samarahan are among the localities engaged,” he stated.

After breaking their fast, the attendees then performed the Maghrib, Isyak and Tarawih prayers.

Also present was UNIMAS board of directors chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie.
