Taib, wife visit Dr Chan, JC Fong, Steve Ng on first day of CNY

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib made their rounds of Chinese New Year visits to prominent Chinese leaders in Kuching today (Jan 22).

Their first visit was to the Sarawak Legal Counsel Datuk Seri JC Fong, at his residence at Legenda in Jalan Mathies.

They were welcomed by Fong and his wife Datin Seri Annie Fong when they arrived, and shortly after that, they were entertained with a traditional lion dance before going to lunch.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife were also present at JC Fong’s residence.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, Federal Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julahi Narawi and advisor to the Ministry of Internal Trade and Industry Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais also attended the event.

Taib and Raghad spent about an hour at Fong’s residence.

They then proceeded to visit well-known entrepreneur Datuk Steve Ng at his home, where they were also received a warm welcome from Ng and his wife Datin Anriza Cordero.

On their third visit, they paid a visit to the home of the former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam, where they were warmly greeted by Dr Chan and his wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Lorna Enan Muloon.

Dr Chan was Taib’s former classmate when they were both attending St. Joseph schools in Miri and Kuching before moving on to Australia to complete their individual courses.

Taib stayed in Dr Chan’s house for about an hour, where they were also entertained with Chinese traditional dance and songs.

He and his wife left for their home in Demak Jaya at about 2.30pm.
