KUCHING: Women should take care of themselves before they can take care of others, said Law, State-Federal Relation and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

She said, “Women make up half of the population and the workforce. In order for them to contribute to their families, the economy, community and nation, they have to take care of themselves first.”

Hasidah added that women would be able to achieve so much more if they were healthy in terms of strength, stamina, and fitness.

“When our well-being is taken care of, then we can move on to take care of our husband, children and our surroundings,” she said at the opening ceremony of Curves Metrocity Kuching here yesterday.

She added that middle-aged women who exercise are not after the idea of being slim. Instead, they want to be fit and strong.

“Thus, I am very happy and interested in the establishment of Curves Metrocity as it can provide suitable gym equipment for the women compared to traditional weight machines,” she continued.

Hasidah further emphasised that exercise machinery is an important aspect to be considered when it comes to fitness because women’s capabilities differs from the men. The traditional weight machines available may not be suitable as it could lead to injuries.

“From my own experience, sometimes I hurt my knee, ankle or feet when exercising and when I finally went to the doctor, I was told that I shouldn’t be straining my body too much at my age.

“The doctor also told me that the exercise should be done properly and meet the requirement of my age and stamina,” she elaborated.

Amongst those present at the event were Curves Metrocity Kuching owner Noorzilah Mohammed Ali, Awqaf Holdings Berhad chairman Tan Sri Paduka Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir and Curves Malaysia master franchisor Margaret Chin.
