SIBU: Educational institutions and skill centres should take the initiative to approach the youth personally about courses they are offering.

Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dr Annuar Rapaee said, this should be done especially for those who are about to leave school.

“The youth needs to be approached because many of them do not have the opportunity to come to educational exhibitions.

“Most of the youth who should have been offered or taken to these centres did not get clear information.

“We need to approach these people instead of them coming to us,” he said when met by reporters after visiting the Dayak Think-Tank Association Sarawak (DTTAS) Education Fair at the Sibu Jaya Community Hall on Saturday.

Dr Annuar noted that a discussion has been made to get their information or data from every secondary school throughout Sarawak by his party so that this data can be channelled to the institutions.

“This will enable them to continue to approach them (the youth) physically rather than virtually or in the form of an educational fair,” he said.

Commenting further on the education fair, the Nangka assemblyman said that the selection of Sibu Jaya as the venue for the programme was very appropriate because many young people were there.

“I have noticed that the state government and the federal government give many opportunities to students to further their studies in terms of talent and skills.

“This is the most important thing for us, to give the youth who do not continue their education in the academic field, but have good skills so that they can get a job and become entrepreneurs in the future,” he said.

He hoped that the youth in Sibu Jaya would get more exposure and benefit through all the information gathered during the education fair.

The education fair is organised by DTTAS together with the Masterpiece music band and supported by Tamin Service Centre.
