BAU: Participants of an agriculture programme in Serembu have been urged to give their full commitment and be successful in their agriculture activities.

Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh said this is because the Sarawak government has provided all the assistance in terms of funds, expertise and programmes to help farmers in agricultural production in order to generate better income.

He said for instance, programmes under the Agricultural Facilitation Fund (AFF) have greatly benefited the rural community and farmers to progress to another level.

Therefore, he urged participants of seize the opportunity on the various agricultural programme offered by the state government.

“With financial assistance, advice from experts, and other assistance such as providing machinery and fertilisers, we should grab the opportunity that is available in front of us,” he said at the Community Extension Outreach Programme (CEOP) for Kampung Kopit officiation ceremony at Kampung Kopit multipurpose hall on Saturday.

He therefore thanked Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas for continuing to allocate funds under the AFF programme for each constituency in Sarawak.

“For Serembu constituency under the AFF programme, there are six main agricultural-based clusters identified which would become the catalyst for development of Serembu,” he said.

He shared among the agricultural clusters involves ginger planting in Kampung Gumbang; cattle breeding in Kampung Merembeh; paddy planting in Kampung Peninjau Baru, Kampung Kopit and Kampung Sega; coffee planting in Kampung Tringgus; corn planting in Kampung Krokong and growing MD2 pineapple in Kampung Kopit.

“All those involved in this agriculture programme, give your full commitment to make this programme a success so that the agricultural clusters will not just stop here, but could be expanded to the other villages.

“We want to introduce this kind of agriculture cluster because the crops identified can be harvested in a short period of time and at the same time, provide lucrative income for the farmers,” he said.

Also present were Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep and Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.
