KUCHING: Longhouse folk in Baram have been advised to always take the necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreak.
Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala in giving the reminder said they should at all-time strictly observe the safety procedures and guidelines set by the Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).
He also encouraged the community to set up their own Voluntary Fire Services Unit or Pasukan Bomba Sukarelawan similar to the ones set up in Bario and Bomba Bantuan in Kampung Malinau Mulu.
He said members of the voluntary unit should be trained and supported by the Fire and Rescue Services Department (Bomba).
“I understand Bomba organises training from time to time for voluntary firefighters from our longhouses to assist in fire prevention and fire fighting,” he said in a statement today.
On a related issue, Gerawat appealed to SEB to conduct regular check and maintenance of all Sares (Sarawak Rural Electricity Supply) system installed in the longhouses.
He said this was to ensure the integrity and safety of the electrical wirings and fittings inside the longhouse.
He also appealed to SEB to give regular briefings to the residents on safety precaution and fire prevention.
