KUCHING: The government is always committed to providing health facilities fo the benefit of the rakyat, says Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

However, he stressed that the rakyat also needed to take full responsibility for their own health, adopting a healthy lifestyle and practising preventive measures.

“Prevention is better than cure, so as our society progresses, we want everybody to start embarking on prevention, be it at the workplace, home and so on so that we are healthy and get to enjoy life.

“Therefore, the answer to a healthy lifestyle is not to build more hospitals,” he told the media when commenting on the government’s move to stop the construction of more heart centres.

“However, health centres will still be built due to the increasing population and more facilities will be provided when needed.

“We are not looking for business, we want you to be healthy.”

Dr Sim said this after officiating at the Komuniti Sihat Pembina Negara (KOSPEN) Towards Wellness of Workers (WOW) Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) 2022 Health Carnival here today (June 13).

He lauded the initiative of conducting KOSPEN WOW for involving employers to look into the wellness of their employees.

“At the workplace, where all facilities are provided for them to exercise, which creates an environment for them to be healthy and hopefully after this, employers will start looking at healthy food.

“A healthy lifestyle does not involve exercise and food alone, there are multiple factors.”

Dr Sim also stressed the need to start conducting more education and awareness programmes about health be it at the workplace, home, factories and other places so that people would be taking a healthier approach.
