KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak encourages its students to take up additional courses in order to add value to their academic qualifications.

In making the call, UiTM Sarawak rector, Prof Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali said, “This will prepare them for the real working environment.”

He said this in his speech at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UiTM Sarawak and Professional Mutawwif Development Sdn Bhd at Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak (PTAR), Kota Samarahan Campus 2 today.

Jamil said UiTM Sarawak was promoting technical and vocational education training (TVET) by introducing various skilled courses to its students.

He added that UiTM students would not only be able to compete in the job market but could contribute to the country in various fields.

On the introduction of the Diploma in Mutawwif Professional and Muslim Tour Leader at the university, Jamil explained it aimed to make UiTM a leader in providing recognisable Mutawwif Professional and Muslim Tour Leader services in Malaysia.

“We also want to expand the scope of a Mutawwif’s career in the umrah and pilgrimage industry to allow him to work not only in Mecca and Madinah but also beyond,” he explained.

Jamil stressed that cooperation with other organisations or companies in the industry throughout the world was important so that benefits from the industry could be shared.

Besides focusing on the practical components and industrial training, he said the module also emphasised on the special needs of the umrah industry and Islamic tourism in the country and the world generally.

Jamil added that the programme also emphasised the tourism aspects, marketing, management, business and self-developmen of the students.
