KUCHING: The proposal to set up street lights along Jalan Borneo Height will come to fruition once relevant agencies and other parties are ready.

Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik said he will have another discussion with Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil on when the project can start.

He said Dr Jerip has put aside a few million ringgit from the allocated fund from GKCDA to kick off the project.

“The proposed street lights will start off from the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) up to the Annah Rais area. This will cost about RM2 million.

“Street lights will also be put up along the road towards Kampung Abang, Kampung Parang, Kampung Assum, Kampung Kiding and Kampung Sapit at a cost of about RM1 million.

“Overall, this will cost about RM3 million,” said Ik during an interview with New Sarawak Tribune on Tuesday (August 1).

However, decisions have yet to be made whether to use electric lights or solar-powered lights along the road.

“The project could start this year and hopefully be done by next year. We are still in discussion with relevant agencies at the moment.

“The street lighting is under the Padawan Municipal Council’s (MPP) jurisdiction.

“Once MPP is ready, we will be ready to start the project. Once the money is available, then we can proceed to put up the street lights,” he said.
