KUCHING: Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Willie Mongin will discuss with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg and Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on how to appropriately reward national diver Pandelela Rinong.

“She should be awarded for her achievements and as a Bidayuh deputy minister, I am determined to help and support Pandelela in any way that is within my capabilities,” said Willie, who is also Puncak Borneo MP.

“In line with this, I also call on the private sector and corporate companies to come forward to give rewards in any form, such as financial sponsorship contributions.

“With this, I would like to express my support for her in achieving success for Sarawak and Malaysia,” he said.

He also said that in 2012, he forwarded a suggestion for the government to reward her in more meaningful and sustainable ways.

“Pandelela is a proven young athlete with great potential. She indeed deserves recognition in any form of reward,” he said.
