MIRI: An additional lane will be constructed at the Taman Tunku junction to help resolve traffic congestion in the area.

Minister for Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the Public Works Department (JKR) Northern Zone Pan Borneo Highway team agreed to do so.

“Presently, there are only two lanes at the Taman Tunku junction – one heading towards Bintulu while another lane to Taman Tunku.

“We plan to build a third lane (the additional lane) heading to Taman Tunku to reduce traffic congestion,” he said at the site on Yesterday (July 4).

Lee explained that work would start once the whole construction along the stretch (from the Pujut junction all the way to the Taman Tunku junction) is done.

He added that all seven traffic lights along the stretch from Permyjaya up to the Taman Tunku junction would be upgraded to smart traffic light system to help smoothen traffic flow.
