KUCHING: Tan Kai, a political secretary to the chief minister, says another telecommunication tower is not necessary in Jalan Jambu, Sungai Maong here.

Instead, he suggested that the three existing ones be improved.

During a site visit yesterday accompanied by Penghulu Gian Ann Kee and several Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) officers, Tan Kai said the signal strength in the area was strong enough.

He then requested that site activities be put on hold.

“I have asked the SMA officers to put on hold the site activities until any doubt is cleared. I will inform the chief minister about this,” he said.

Despite protest from residents last week, work on the new tower continued.

This led to the disgruntled residents seeking help from Gian and councillor Mok Chuan Ping, who then approached Tan Kai.
