BINTULU: Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming has expressed his full support for the Sarawak government’s intention to take back Bintulu Port from the federal government.

He said currently Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is fighting for the rights of Sarawak and planning the development of Sarawak as a whole.

Therefore, he hoped all Sarawakians, especially those from Bintulu, will give their full support to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government in realising the effort so that the mission of fighting for Sarawak’s rights can be achieved.

“All Sarawakians including those in Bintulu need to speak up and show our support to Abang Johari on the matter (getting back Bintulu Port),” he said when met after the launching of sports equipment store, SPORTDEAL at Bintulu Sentral.

Pang added previously he had brought up the matter during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

With Sarawak taking over the Bintulu Port, he said it will have a significant impact and change the overall development in Sarawak, especially in terms of economic development.

“Bintulu has changed from a small fishing village in the past to a large industrial town. Now, we have the oil and gas industry, new energy, and if Bintulu Port is returned in addition with the Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) Project in the future, we can see great potential for Bintulu’s future growth,” he pointed out.

With that, he hopes that the Bintulu community can support and appreciate the efforts of the state government of making Sarawak a high-income state by the year 2030.

“It is hoped that the people will also give positive feedback to the government if the direction and decision of the Sarawak government is correct.

“This gives encouragement to the government to continue the struggle for the sake of the people,” he said.
