KUCHING: Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) Miri branch looks forward to the good policies under the new cabinet lineup of the unity government.

Its Chairman, Mohammad Hafiz Rohani, expressed hope that with the appointment of Datuk Ewon Benedick as the new Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, more targeted assistance would be given to new entrepreneurs.

He then noted that the decision made by Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was to ensure that all components in the government were satisfied with the new line-up of the cabinet.

“However, I am sure that each component party should be open to the decisions made, especially when the people are looking forward to the transformation and reforms that he wants to bring.

“Appointments from the Sabah and Sarawak bloc would undoubtedly draw attention, as the people of these two states desire to benefit the most, particularly in the quest to secure rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” he said.

On the same note, he pointed out that the appointment of Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) has also been anticipated by the people of Sarawak.

With his previous cabinet experience, Hafiz asserted that Fadillah will undoubtedly be able to better represent the voice of the state.

Even though Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi now holds the portfolio of the Ministry of Public Works, Hafiz assures and hopes that existing implementation will be able to continue so that sufficient facilities and infrastructure for these two states may be realised.

As such, he said, the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road (SSLR), which connects these two states without going through Brunei, should also be accelerated.

He added that the appointment of Datuk Tiong King Sing as Tourism Minister also shows the confidence of the federal government in the honourable members lineup from Sarawak.

“His experience is expected to bring more changes to Sarawak’s tourism industry,” said Hafiz.
