KUCHING: Time is needed to refine the resolutions on the native custom of “pemakai menoa” (territorial domain’ and “pulau galau” (communal forest reserve) before they are presented to the state cabinet.

The state government has taken the political solution adopted by the previous Chief Minister to resolve the issue.

“As the Chairman of the Task Force addressing these issues, announcing something which has not been finalised will cause major confusion.

“Yes, we are making progress but we are looking at the resolutions and studying them closely so that we can achieve an amicable approach to resolve the problems,” Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this during an interview at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house of the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka here yesterday.

He requested all relevant parties to be patient.

Douglas also responded positively to the suggestion that all state assemblymen/assemblywomen should help to improve English proficiency in schools under their constituencies.

“I would also like the Ministry of Education to set up more ICT facilities, especially in the rural schools,” he added.
