Tatau Festival set to return on Oct 1

TATAU: More than 30,000 visitors are expected to attend the Tatau Festival 2022 from Oct 1-16 at Tatau Old Market and Tatau Riverbank.

Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai said the festival has now returned to enliven Tatau after a two-year pause due to the Covid-19 pandemic and that various interesting programmes await visitors.

“The highlighted programme is not only focused on arts and culture, but also highlights the traditional food products of various ethnic groups and communities in Tatau.

“For me, the Tatau Festival is important in strengthening the relationship between the people who live in Tatau and those outside the area,” the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) quoted him as saying in a press conference after a Tatau Festival 2022 meeting held recently.

According to Sikie, among the programmes which will be held in conjunction with the festival include the ‘Bejalai Bebala Mayuh’ or ‘Niti Daun’ (Tribal Culture Parade) which will involve the Ibans, Malays, Chinese, Punan, Beketan, Orang Ulu, Vaie and Tatau.

He added that a Ratu Etnik Fest 2022, Power Boat race, Perahu Berhias, Sukan Rakyat, Tatau Mini Traditional Food, Mukun competition, Gendang Pampat and other activities will also be held during the festival.

Altogether the festival will see 31 events and competitions including entertainment performances by local artistes.

The festival committee is also expecting participation from outside Sarawak such asfrom Brunei Darussalam in the Power Boat event.
