MIRI: A taxi driver was rushed to Miri Hospital with head and body injuries after he was allegedly assaulted by four Indian nationals early yesterday.

The alleged incident occurred near a 24-hour convenience store at Jalan Boulevard 3 at 1am.

Following the attack, a team from Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detained the four suspects, aged in their late 20s and 30s for questioning.

They were picked up from various locations within the city area in an operation conducted at 9.30am.

Preliminary investigations revealed that prior to the attack the four suspects had booked the driver via a taxi services application. However, they cancelled their booking in the last minutes, despite the driver arriving at their location to pick them up.

They got into an argument over the cancellation charges.

The four suspects began attacking the driver in his late 30s using glass bottles before fleeing off the scene when the driver fell unconscious.

The injured driver was rushed to Miri Hospital by members of the public who found him lying unconscious on the road.
