BINTANGOR: A female teacher was killed while four others sustained injuries following a two-vehicle collision at Mile 8, Jalan KJD Sungai Mador this morning.

The 10.30am accident involved a car and a van that were travelling in opposite directions.

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said that investigations found the driver of the car, travelling from Meradong to Julau, had allegedly lost control of the vehicle before swerving into the opposite lane and crashed into an oncoming van.

The impact of the crash caused the car to overturn and fell into a gorge, while the front part of the van was damaged.

“The victim identified as Flora Dayong, 29, who is a passenger in the car, was extricated by Bintangor firemen and later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“The body was brought to Sarikei Hospital,” he said.

On the other hand, the driver, 29, sustained injuries on his legs and was rescued by the public.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old van driver and his two female passengers aged 13 and 54, also sustained chest, head, chin, leg and thigh injuries due to the collision.

Firefighters also managed to extricate the 54-year-old van passenger from the vehicle, while the driver and the other passenger were rescued by passers-by.

Alexson pointed out that the injured victims were immediately rushed to Sarikei Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
