KUCHING: Early childhood educators need to be committed to keeping abreast with the ever-changing world of education.

In stressing this, Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said teachers especially SeDidik teachers need to step up the game to keep pace with modernisation.

She said this is important as it provides for a relevant teaching and learning process.

“The world that is beginning to shift towards digitalisation is now demanding educators to change in preparation to ensuring the success of SeDidik children constantly improves.

“Therefore, I call on teachers to have knowledge and high skills, in terms of pedagogy, these teachers must always be relevant, innovative and creative for the well-being of students.

“The criteria possessed by these educators can thus improve the quality and level of educational professionalism in line with the current modernisation,” she said at a SeDidik dinner in conjunction with Teacher’s Day celebration, Ramah Tamah Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak celebration on Saturday (May 4).

She pointed out that SeDidik teachers also play a key role in contributing to children’s well-being through education, character formation, and other activities that begin in the early stages of childhood.

“It begins with us imparting knowledge and encouraging children to develop their abilities, skills, attitudes as well as knowledge and instilling noble values.

“We are the ones who are responsible for providing them a safe and protected environment,” she said.

Fatimah emphasised that educators need to equip themselves with the appropriate knowledge, especially ICT (information and communications technology) skills, through courses to meet various challenges in educating, guiding and nurturing children.
