KUCHING: The Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS) welcomesthe RM300 subsidy provided for Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) households with school-going children to purchase devices, under the Pemerkasa initiative announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Its president Ahmad Malie said this subsidy would ease the burden of the parents concerned in purchasing suitable devices to meet the needs of their children.
He described this subsidy initiative as the first step by the government to ensure that all citizens regardless of socioeconomic circumstances would be able to own devices to facilitate their children’s learning.
“We hope that parents will make the best use of this facility for the benefit of their children’s education,” he said in a statement today (Mar 18).
Ahmad also welcomed the government’s efforts to implement initiatives to bridge the digital gap among the people.
“With the implementation of this initiative, the government intends to ensure that more people can access the internet easily.
“Therefore, we hope that this initiative can be realised immediately to fulfil the needs of the people who always want the best internet access as well as enhance their socioeconomic circumstances in a global manner,” he said.
Ahmad expressed confidence that the implementation of these initiatives would certainly bring benefits to the government’s efforts of cultivating high-tech citizens in line with global developments.
