KUCHING: Team Koyak Gulung Gulung won the ninth edition of HackWknd award held in conjunction with the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (Idecs) 2019 yesterday.

Winning under the smart city category with its Smart Traffic Emergency Response System project, the team took home RM3,000.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to hand over the prizes to the winners at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The second prize winner was Team BitJunKeys; competing under the digital government category, it won RM1,500 with its Smart Queue Monitoring System project. The system informs the public of the estimated queue time at clinics and hospitals so that they can make informed decisions on where to get their health treatment.

The recipient of the third prize of RM1,000 under the smart city category was Team Vision with its Preemptive Traffic Light System (PETS) project.

Team Page won the People’s Choice Award (consolation prize) for its all-in-one tourism website, and took home RM250.

Present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Ghani, and SMA general manager Dr Zaidi Razak.

The HackWknd programme, organised by Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), aimed to nurture and grow local talents in using technology to solve problems. The participants only had 48 hours to come out with solutions and pitch their ideas.

The hackaton ran from July 6 till yesterday at Kuching Creative Heritage Hub (KCH), one of the latest digital innovation hubs within the Sarawak digital village ecosystem governed by Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA).
