KUCHING: One of Hope Place recipients is a centenarian Maree Bin Mion, 109. Maree lives with his 59-yearold daughter Sa’adiah. Sa’adiah, who suffers from kidney failure, requires dialysis treatment three times a week. Due to old age Maree’s vision and hearing are not good.

The wooden house that they live in now is very old and needs repair, especially the sitting room’s wooden floor that could collapse anytime. The house is also without water and electricity supply.

The only income is from the Welfare Department amounting to RM 300 monthly. Hope Place has brought out this matter to Ibraco S/B. Ibraco S/B is willing to repair Maree’s house for free. Ibraco will install a new concrete floor after removing the old wooden floor that had been damaged by termites and will make a concrete new water tank foundation and they will build the new staircase and verandah too.

Besides this, the company will build a new walkpath for Maree’s convenience. Currently the company has completed up to 40 per cent of the repair works.

It is expected to complete the repair within one week. During yesterday’s visit Maree happily extended his thanks and appreciation to Hope Place and Ibraco S/B. Hope Place is an NGO that visits the poor and less fortunate families to contribute some essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits, and noodles. Plenty of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month; hence many are grateful with the assistance of these basic necessities delivered to them.

For the families with children with special needs, or with elderly or disable people, they are provided with milk powder, oat and diapers as well. Hope Place carries out their aid deliveries once every two months because of the many families on their recipients list.

Currently it supports more than 190 families. For more information on how you can help, Hope Place can be reached at Hot line 013-567 2775 or 082- 505 987 (new number)) from 8.30am -12pm and 2pm– 5pm Mondays to Fridays and Saturday 9am to 12pm only.
