MIRI: A man, who thought he could borrow some money to ease his financial burden, ended up having to cough up nearly RM1,300 instead.

He had befriended a person on Facebook early July 22, and this particular chap offered to loan him RM5,000.

The complainant, who is a technician, was interested and he was later asked to fill in his personal details.

He was then asked to pay a processing fee of RM300, which he banked in.

A few hours later the same day, he received a call, asking for more money – this time, it was for what the caller described as activation fee, which was RM490 and RM480 respectively.

The sums were banked in. It then struck him that he had become the victim of a con job.

A police report was lodged.
