Teen arrested for reckless riding

KUCHING: Police arrested three youth, including two 16-year-olds, during two operations dubbed ‘Op Samsung Jalanan’ and ‘Op Motorsikal’ conducted at Jalan Kampung Baru on Saturday.

Samarahan district chief DSP Lee Chong Chern said of the three, one was arrested for riding recklessly.

“Such action could bring harm to the rider as well to other road users. He was arrested together with his motorcycle and was then brought to the district headquarters for further action,” he said when contacted.

Lee added that the suspect would be investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, the remaining two aged 16 and 24 were arrested for drug abuse activities after they tested positive for syabu.

The duo will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

During the operation, 72 motorcycles were inspected under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987. Fifty summonses were issued for various offences.

The operation, which took place from 10pm to 7am yesterday, involved 46 officers and personnel from the district headquarters.
