KUCHING: A motorcyclist died on Wednesday following a crash which left him pinned under a cement truck.

The incident happened at about 1.20pm near a furniture showroom at Jalan Matang here.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the deceased was identified as 15-year-old Mohammad Ashrell Abdul Wahab, who hailed from Taman Bowood.

“Initial investigation revealed that a 39-year-old man, who was behind the wheel of the truck, was headed to Moyan Square from Petra Jaya.

“Mohammad Ashrell is believed to have lost control of his machine, skidded and crashed into the truck from the opposite direction,” he said when contacted.

The deceased suffered severe injuries to the head and was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) where he was pronounced dead. The truck driver was unharmed.

Meanwhile, vehicles involved in the crash were brought to Padawan district police headquarters for inspections by Puspakom and the Chemistry Department.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” Alexson said.
