KUCHING: A kind deed ended up in sorrow for a teenager who died helping his friend to get back his mobile phone which was snatched at 3.30pm Wednesday.

The incident occurred at Kampung Landeh when Mohd Syahrizal Iswandi, 16, was riding his motorcycle with his friend. At a junction, a man on a motorcycle asked to borrow a mobile phone to call someone.

The rider tried to call the number the suspect gave him but could not get through. So he gave his mobile phone to the suspect who rode away with the phone.

Syahrizal then gave chase but lost control of his motorcycle, hitting a divider before falling down. A car behind could not stop in time and collided into them. The car then ended up in a ditch.

Syahrizal was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the car sustained minor injuries while Syahrizal’s friend sustained a broken arm and wounds on his face.
