MIRI: A tragic three-vehicle collision on Saturday night resulted in the death of a 21-year-old female pillion rider on Jalan Bakam, Simpang Sungai Rait.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that a report of the collision, which occurred at 7.30 pm, was received.

The deceased was riding on a motorcycle with a 19-year-old male when their vehicle collided with a Perodua Viva.

“The accident involved a Yamaha SS motorcycle, driven by a 19-year-old male, a Mitsubishi Triton, driven by a 37-year-old male, and a Perodua Viva driven by a 50-year-old male,” said Alexson in a statement.

According to preliminary police investigations, the motorcycle was likely travelling from Bintulu to Miri when it crashed into the rear of the Mitsubishi, causing the rider to lose control. The motorcycle then veered into the opposing lane and was struck by the Perodua Viva.

“This impact caused severe damage to the motorcycle, injuring the rider and leading to the victim’s tragic death.

“She died at Miri Hospital while receiving treatment for her injuries around 8.30 pm,” he added.
