Teen ordered to attend Henry Gurney School for drug abuse

KUCHING: A teenage boy pleaded guilty to involvement in the abuse of the drug known as syabu two years ago and has been ordered to attend the Henry Gurney School (for young offenders) for a period of three years.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar issued the order on Thursday (June 22) after considering the moral report of the 17-year-old offender from the Department of Social Welfare.

The charge against him was under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which pertains to the introduction of prohibited drugs, specifically amphetamine and methamphetamine, into his body.

The offence took place at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division Office of IPD Padawan at around 4.53pm on July 2, 2021.

If convicted, the accused could have faced a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for a maximum of two years.

The case details revealed that the teen was apprehended by a police team and brought to IPD Padawan on suspicion of involvement in drug abuse activities. A urine screening conducted on the accused yielded positive results for drugs.

The urine sample was subsequently sent to the Department of Chemistry Malaysia for analysis, which confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine in the accused’s system.

The prosecution was led by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang while the accused did not have legal representation.
