Teenage drug trafficker sent to correction centre

KUCHING: The High Court here yesterday ordered a teenage boy be sent to the Henry Gurney School, Puncak Borneo after he was found guilty of distributing methamphetamine drug weighing 76.57g in an oil palm plantation at Kampung Bitokan, two years ago.

The 19-year-old had pleaded guilty before Judicial Commissioner Alexander Siew How Wai.

He was charged with selling methamphetamine weighing 76.57 grammes on a roadside at the Sampadi oil palm plantation, Kampung Bitokan around 4.10am on June 1, 2021.

The offence, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and punishable under Subsection 93A (2) of the same act provides for imprisonment of five to ten years and whippings.

According to the facts of the case, a police team from the General Operations Force (GOF) were conducting Ops Benteng Covid in Lundu district on June 1, 2021.

At around 3.55am, the team saw a sedan vehicle in a suspicious condition and stopped the vehicle in question.

During inspection, the accused who was the driver of the vehicle was asked to produce his identity card.

Upon further inspection, the GOF personnel found one plastic packet containing 11 small transparent packets and two red plastic containing crystals believed to be methamphetamine.

The accused was then arrested and his smartphone and cash amounting to RM417 were also confiscated.

The Chemical Department confirmed the methamphetamine type drug weighing 76.57 grams.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Yong Suk Hui prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyers Francis Teron Kadap and Timothius Ngau Wan.
