SIBU: A collision between a pickup and a lorry claimed the life of a teenage passenger while two others suffered injuries this morning (Oct 9).

The fatal accident occurred along Jalan Paradom at 7.20am when a Daihatsu pickup heading towards Belawai crashed into the rear end of a stalled Nissan lorry.

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the lorry driven by a 40-year-old driver with two passengers aged 43 and 47, had earlier broken down on the road due to mechanical issues.

“Investigations found that the driver and his passengers were not in time to put down an emergency cone behind the lorry to warn road users.

“The Daihatsu driven by a 37-year-old man with two teenage passengers aged 17 years, apparently was unaware that the lorry in front had stalled.

“As a result, one of the teenage passengers identified as Chieng Chao Siong suffered severe injuries and was pronounce dead at the scene by paramedics,” he said.
