BINTULU: Six teenage boys who lost their way while trekking through the jungle near Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Chung Hua No 2, Jalan Nyabau, were rescued by firefighters yesterday (June 26).

A spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said they received an emergency call for assistance from one of the teenagers around 6.55pm.

Firemen from the Bintulu station were promptly despatched to the scene to carry out the rescue operation.

With daylight fading, the team advised the group to stay put and wait for rescuers to find them.

The team managed to locate the teenagers about 95 metres from the entrance, based on the location shared by one of them.

All of them, aged 16 and 17, who were unharmed, were later escorted out of the jungle trekking site before they were handed over to the police for further action.

The search operation wrapped up at 8.05pm after the teenagers were found safe.
