BINTULU: The body of a teenage boy feared drowned in Kuala Nyalau Beach on Friday (Dec 9), was found dead this morning.

The 17-year-old victim known only as Riyan, was discovered by the locals around 6.20am.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the body was spotted some 300 metres from the location where the victim was reported to have drowned.

Following the discovery of the body, rescuers were deployed to the scene to retrieve the victim from the beach.

Upon arrival, the victim was found shirtless and only wore a pair of shorts.

The team later handed over the body to the police to be taken to the hospital for post-mortem.

Earlier, the victim along with three other friends were carrying out recreational activities by the beach.

Later around 5pm, a fun outing turned tragic when the victim disappeared and was believed to be swept away by the strong current.

Another 18-year-old friend was successfully rescued by the public.

Rescue agencies were quickly alerted for search assistance to locate the missing victim.
