KUCHING: A teenage boy willingly lodged a false police report claiming that he was robbed by two men armed with an iron rod because he was afraid to be scolded by his father for damaging his mobile phone following a fight with his girlfriend.

However, the action of the 18-year-old teenager resulted in him being sentenced to a fine of RM1,000 in default of one month in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here.

The accused pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar to a charge framed under Section 182 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the accused can be sentenced to a jail term of up to six months or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both.

Zaiton meted out the sentence against the accused from Kampung Bintawa Tengah after hearing a social report from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) yesterday.

According to the charge sheet, the young offender was charged with committing the offence at Gita police station around 1.45 pm last Jan 25.
